Hi site members! Whether you're a licensed member or browsing our site, you'll find this forum helpful to ask questions and meet other sewing instructors teaching our program.
Tell us and others here a bit about yourself!
Where do you live?
Do you own a studio, and if so, how many years have you been teaching sewing?
If you're looking to create a start-up using our program, what questions do you have for others that have already taken that leap?
Hello, I am Dr. Brady my friends call me D.J. I live in Bridgton, Maine and I am opening a Educational Psychological crafting center. It will have Fabrics and yarns, as well as needle point and cross stitch. As crafting is the one of the teneats of stress relief I am making my studio available for all types of instruction. I however, plan to teach sewing and quilting to beginners of all ages.
After reading through the content I am sure that this is an effective way to teach basic skills that allows for creative inspiration. I plan to feature their work in local craft shows and fairs.
How much are you charging for lessons?
Thanks
Hello everyone! My name is Lyndsey Stanfill. I opened a Sewing School in Louisville, KY, in the summer of 2022, and I left my corporate job early in 2024 to work full-time in the studio. Most of my revenue is from teaching sewing classes, but I am slowly growing the retail side of my business as well. I don't think I'll ever be a full-service sewing shop; instead, I offer a curated boutique for apparel sewing.
I teach Children, Teens, and Adults how to sew, with an emphasis on garment sewing. I am a big, big fan of Sewciety Kids. I've used it exclusively for my children's classes since I opened the studio.
I really look forward to the community that is being built here!
Hi, I’m Carolyn in Washington state. I taught Language Arts & Family Consumer Sciences for 30 years to middle and high school students. I’m on leave caring for my husband who has ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease and planning what to do next. In reflecting over the decades, teaching sewing brought me the most joy! I have two former students currently making their livings in the sewing industry, which makes me just a little proud!
Hello! Just getting started on my Sewciety journey. I'm Carla and have been teaching classes to adults and children since 1999. Been sewing since I was 6 so I know the importance of what can happen when a child learns sewing skills early in life. By profession and training I am a custom dressmaker/private sewing instsructor. Since 2004 I have been to several countries where i get to teach sewing skills and the most recent is Zambia. Although the afterschool model won't work for me at my current location I still plan to use the system as a Saturday class and summer camp. I love that everything is already planned out and I can offer the beginner workshop to prep kids for the summer camps. Hopefully within the next year a new location will be in the works so I can implement the afterschool program. I have the startup package and will soon get level one to prepare for summer if the summer camp package is not available.
Hello! I'm Elizabeth and I just ordered the Start-Up Package and Level 1. I taught Family and Consumer Science for 10 years (formally Home Economics) and now teach Gifted and Talented. I have taught in the public school system for 32 years and am looking forward to retiring in the next 2 years. A few years ago I taught several middle and high school students sewing and loved it. Wanting to teach sewing again as a retirement gig and can't wait to get started. Let me know what your journey was like when you started out on your Sewciety Kids journey.
